3D Model And Animation That I Made In Class

For my mock assessment, I was asked to make a small robot and animate it. For my design and video I was inspired by the genres of analogue horror and liminal space, two very popular genres in internet pop culture today. This robot is an old analogue TV, combined with moving antenna and  wheels, robotic arms and a terrifying face that stares at the viewer menacingly. The video starts as the viewer is looking directly at this uncanny object in a 'backrooms' like environment. I even made the camera move in a realistic but uneasy way to make the viewer really feel like they are in this environment. The robot then becomes aware of the 'person' in front as its antenna twitches and its arms extend, ready to pounce and jump scare the viewer. The dolly-zoom camera movement also heightens the tension of what is about to happen. I made the video 'grainy' and have a 4:3 aspect ratio to exaggerate the theme of 'analogue horror' further.

This was modelled, rigged and animated in Maya, textured and UV'd in 3D Coat and set-dressed and rendered out in Unreal Engine 4.
